FISHING

Tell us about the fishing section!
We are a very friendly, approachable group who enjoy getting out and trying our luck to catch those elusive fish, either fresh water or surfcasting off the local beaches in the Canterbury area.

Are beginners welcome?
Ages range from our juniors, the youngest is 5 and the oldest members are over 60. We do lend a hand to beginners when they need it and there’s always someone around to offer some advice. Anyone is more than welcome to join us at any time… even if it’s just to come out for a look as to what we do… although a trip down to Benmore may be a bit far.

When do you meet?
Trips away include freshwater fishing competitions at Benmore and Aviemore twice a year and another at Twizel now pencilled in over Waitangi weekend yearly… added to this is a few trips to Lake Brunner to compete with other clubs as well. Surfcasting is often around Baileys Beach which is close to Birdlings Flat and the diversity of the catch can be quite surprising at times. Off season, we try to meet monthly for a catch up, which may include a ten pin bowling night, mini golf, or a meal out. The committee consists of 7-9 people and meets on the last Tuesday of each month.

Ok, I want to join, who do I speak to?
Contact Tony Rhodes President 03 894 123 or Karen Bishop secretary 09 818 975 for further information.
